Over the years, Spiritos School has been highly successful in helping children overcome the challenges of Autism. We have been told by some previous parents that their child’s teachers couldn’t believe the child once battled the effects of Autism. We believe our success can be attributed to the following:
Consistency– By providing a written program and continuous staff training, we're able to be consistent in working with the child so he or she learns what is and is not appropriate.
Meet the child where (s)he is – Each child is a unique individual and is treated as such. What works for one child will not necessarily work for another.
Mix several therapies (ABA, Speech, OT, etc.) – By integrating various therapies, children respond more quickly.
Individualized programs – When you meet one child with Autism you meet one child with Autism. No two children are exactly alike and no program will work exactly the same with two different children.
One to one ratio – Each child has a team of 3 to 4 teachers/therapists who rotate. The child will work with one team member in the morning and a different one in the afternoon. By providing one to one therapy, we're able to focus on that child’s specific needs. By rotating staff, we teach the child to generalize and not become attached to only one person.
Natural Environment Teaching – The main objective at Spiritos School is to prepare children to be successful in their homes and communities. By teaching them in and about their natural environment, they learn to be typical kids. They have fun learning and exploring and at the same time absorb lessons in science, math, and reading.
Community Outings to work on social skills – Our children are exposed to as many social situations as possible. Each outing is a lesson in proper behavior and conversation skills.
Staff is invested in children – Every applicant is rated on their credentials, skills and experience. But if their eyes don’t shine when they interact with the children they do not get hired. This ensures our staff is here for the right reasons and that the children are the main focus.
