A COMPASSIONATE AND TRAUMA-ASSUMED BEHAVIORAL APPROACH WITHIN THE ACADEMIC SETTING
SPIRITOS SCHOOL USES A COMPASSIONATE AND TRAUMA-ASSUMED BEHAVIORAL APPROACH. WE STRIVE TO CREATE AN ALL-INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR NEURODIVERSE INDIVIDUALS TO LEARN AND GROW IN A SAFE CREATIVE SPACE.
Tier 1: Connection
Our staff first work on pairing and rapport building with the students to create a healthy bond. We focus on creating an environment of respect, trust, and safety. We follow our learners lead and ensure our students feel valued, supported, and included.
Tier 2: Empowerment
During this phase of development we encourage our students to try new things and implement frequent preference assessments. We provide lots of positive praise and feedback. We work on teaching at their level and allowing autonomy in decision making. Our staff focus intently on our students strengths and abilities and foster an environment for creative learning.
Tier 3: Growth
Our students start to develop and retain new skills during this phase. We support them through their newer found independence and begin fading out and shaping new skills.
Tier 4: Advancement
Our goal is for our students to transition out of our program to a least restrictive setting. We work on preparing them for this through generalizing all skills across settings and persons and supporting them in their goals and ambitions. We encourage autonomy and connect them with additional supports in their network.
